Marrakech built by Saadians dynasty, is located right next to the Atlas mountain, 180 kms from the ocean. Due to its Palm Tree fields, its been the favourite camels caravan's stop coming from the Saharian Desert for centuries. Inside the medina's fortified walls, the city was sheltering a dense and mixed population in numerous fondouks (guest houses). This history probably explains the city's great sense of hospitality.
